This was a test of my dessert skills. We got this idea from a Facebook post and had to try it! In my house it is normally my daughter who does any baking. All in all they turned out pretty well. Samantha (my daughter) and I loved them. They have a tartness without the overly sweet you can get from a lot of desserts. My husband was on the fence he tends to like the overly sweet desserts.


Apple Roses

Fruit Preserves

4 Apples (cored, Halved, & sliced)

1 Lemon (juice)

2 tbsp water

1 box Puff Pastries

1tbsp Cinnamon

1/4 cup Powdered Sugar

Preheat oven to 375 degrees

Core 4 apples, halve them and then slice them. Keep the slices as thin as possible. I prefer to use a mandolin with a guard. There are many types of mandolins on the market.

20160515_165624Put apple slices in microwave safe bowl and cover with water. Add juice from lemon. Microwave on high for 6-8 minutes till pliable.

20160515_165520  Next flour your board or counter top and roll out the sheets of Puff Pastry so that you have 6 stripes that are about 3 inches wide. Use a pizza cutter to cut stripes.






In separate bowl. Mix fruit preserve with a couple of tablespoons of water. Then spoon out the preserves into the center of each strip of puff pastry.






20160515_171511Next place the apple slices long ways  halfway on the strip overlapping. Keep adding slices until you reach the end. Then fold the other half of the puff pastry over the bottom half of the apple slices.


Roll up each strip and place in a greased muffin pan. The large six muffin worked very well.






Bake for 35-45 minutes. Let cool for 5 minutes and remove form muffin pan. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and cinnamon
